Collector's Spotlight: George R.R. Martin

George R.R. Martin of A Song of Ice and Fire fame has been writing stories all of his life. I'd be at this for months if I were to track down each and every short story, and so this spotlight will focus only his novels, collections, and edited-by books. (which is no small task in itself)

Referred to as the American Tolkien by Time Magazine and boasting the greatest fans in the world, A Song of Ice and Fire is Mr. Martin's shining epic; the highpoint of an illustrious career.

The first novel in the series, A Game of Thrones, is perhaps one of the most interesting books in recent SF history to collect -- there are literally 19 different english language editions. The UK Advanced Reader's Copy (pictured at top left) is considered the holy grail of Martin collectibles, though other editions can cost a pretty penny as well.

I'm sick.. I just went book shopping over lunch.
I found a copy of the re releae trade of a Dying of the Light, and Wildcards 3.

Plus I got WoT books 4&5 in HC
A Gene Wolfe collectio, Innocents Abroad, and GGK A Song for Arbonne

Anonymous Neil Clarke said ... (3:30 PM) :

Nice list. One correction: The signed limited Legends II had a list price of $150 and is still available from the publisher. It can be had for less than that.

Holy crap!

I didn't know that my AGoT ARC was worth so much, especially since I didn't pay a penny for it!;-)

Same thing for my first printing hardcovers!

I paid $5.99 for my 1st ed. HC of A Game of Thrones when I saw it on B&N's discount shelf a couple of years ago. Nice little investment there.

Good job on the pricing. It's a tough thing to research. Your Wild Card list needs a bit of adjusting, though. First, if you're interested in adding this, there were ARCs of at least the first couple of volumes (I can check for more specific info if you want). Second, the Baen books are far tougher than the Bantam Books, with the last of them, BLACK TRUMP, by far the scarcest. You'll rarely see them for under $20.
